Mdatya Primary School (2013)

“The gift of the library helps our learners in reading and writing and they are now capable to enter spelling bee competitions up to the district level.”

Bulelani Mankwali, Educator

Mdatya is located in Port Edward, Eastern Cape, South Africa with approximately 25 staff and teachers and 1100 learners. Mdatya hosts grades K-8 and had no functional library on their campus. The school has never had a library before and the concept of a library is non-existent.  With partners like World Reader the Matthew E. Russell Foundation was able to place 50 Wi-Fi Kindles along with computers and printers.  Not only is this the first library for the school but also for a community of 100,000 students in this district.
