Our History

In 2001 an 11 year old boy made his first trip to South Africa. In this rural community of the Eastern Cape, Matthew E. Russell, embraced the local children sharing his dreams and vision to one day become a teacher and help other children grow in their passion for reading.

Over the next ten years Matthew visited the same rural area many times, pouring his heart into the young people of the area. Matthew became a role model to many young men who began to understand that you could be “cool” and still get an education and live your dream.

In December of 2011, Matthew passed away suddenly and unexpectedly. This foundation has been established to keep Matthew’s legacy alive. His dream and passion for reading and education will continue to be a reality through the libraries and media center that the foundations will institute.
